The social band is aimed at providing an opportunity for brass and percussion musicians to play music at social level rather than to the commitment that goes with contest or major concert performances, or civic duties as with the main City Brass Band.

The group currently has eighteen members male and female of ages ranging from late thirties through to the early eighties. Most members are retired.

Nelson City Social Brass performs in the community from time to time, generally about six times a year, but only if it suits the group to do so.

Directed by Peter Goodman the social band meets at 7pm on Wednesday nights
